Most people know us as Flexible IT.
Some just call us “Flexible.”
What many don’t realize is that behind our Hauppauge office sits something most people wouldn’t expect from an IT company.
It’s called the Flexible Arena.
Many people don’t realize there’s an ice rink tucked away in the Long Island Innovation Park in Hauppauge.
The Flexible Arena is a non-profit, community ice and multi-sport facility located directly behind our headquarters at 290 Motor Parkway in Hauppauge, NY.
It exists to give local teams and community organizations access to ice and athletic space without the financial burden that usually comes with it. Ice time, court time, and facility use are offered free of charge to qualifying groups, making it fundamentally different from traditional, commercially operated rinks.
While Flexible IT is best known for technology and cybersecurity, the Arena reflects another important part of who we are — staying connected to the local community in a tangible, hands-on way.
The Arena began in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, many indoor rinks were closed or severely limited, leaving youth teams, leagues, and players with few options to stay active.
What started as a temporary outdoor ice surface was built to fill an immediate need. But the response from the community made it clear the space was serving something bigger.
As that need continued, the decision was made to invest further. In 2024, a roof was added, transforming the Arena into a year-round facility and allowing it to operate in far more conditions than before.
Long before the Flexible Arena existed, the founders of Flexible IT met playing hockey at Stony Brook University. That’s where their love of the game started. They carried it forward for years by putting together a Flexible team — never imagining that one day they’d end up building an ice rink of their own.
Today, the Flexible Arena operates year-round and adapts with the seasons to support a wide range of activities.
During the colder months, the Arena functions primarily as an ice rink, hosting youth hockey teams, first responder teams, men’s league teams, and organized pickup hockey sessions. These sessions are scheduled and structured to ensure fair access for participating groups.
During the warmer months, the ice surface is converted into a multi-sport setup. The Arena hosts roller hockey, deck hockey, basketball, pickleball, and other community-based activities, allowing the space to remain active even when ice conditions aren’t practical.
This seasonal flexibility helps maximize usage while keeping the focus on organized, team-based participation.
The Flexible Arena is intentionally designed for teams and organizations, not casual individual use.
There is no open public skating, no private lessons, and no individual training sessions. This structure helps keep scheduling organized, ensures fair access, and allows the facility to serve as many groups as possible.
Teams and organizations reserve time through an organized sign-up process, creating clarity around who is using the space and when.
Beyond regular practices and league play, the Flexible Arena also hosts charity events, community games, and organized tournaments throughout the year.
The space can accommodate select community-focused events depending on their nature, allowing teams and organizations to use the Arena for causes that bring people together and give back.
At its core, the Arena is meant to be more than a practice surface — it’s a shared community space.
People often ask how they can give back to the Flexible Arena. While we truly appreciate the sentiment, we usually encourage something different.
The Flexible Arena is fully sponsored by Flexible IT through its naming rights, which allows the space to operate without relying on donations from the community.
Instead of donating to the rink, we ask that support be directed toward Whip Pediatric Cancer, a cause that is close to our hearts.
The Arena exists so kids can skate, play, and enjoy being kids. At the same time, there are children fighting for something far bigger than a game. Supporting them puts everything into perspective. While some kids battle on the ice, others are fighting for their lives.
When people ask how they can help, our answer is simple:
https://whippediatriccancer.org
The Flexible Arena is funded and supported by Flexible IT and operated with the help of volunteers from our team.
It runs as a non-profit, community-first facility, prioritizing accessibility, organization, and long-term sustainability over commercial rental models. The goal isn’t volume or revenue — it’s keeping the space available and fair for the groups that rely on it.
Scheduling updates, upcoming events, and pickup sessions are shared through the Flexible Arena website and social media channels.
If you’ve ever driven past our Hauppauge office and wondered what was happening behind it — now you know.
